Since 1929 we have established ourselves as a regional brewery and have specialised in the brewing of wheat-beer. Since the founding of our company we have experienced the highs and lows synonymous to companies supplying a niche-market. My father Wolfgang Unertl and I, representing the third and fourth generation of Unertl men to run the family brewery, now control the brewery together.
The development of the brewery has been turbulent. The typical 'Generation-Conflict' and inherited disputes have made it sometimes hard to maintain a presence in the market.
In 1989 however, a significant change took place. Through the revenue created from the sale of our family hotel, the brewery was able to purchase the machinery that enabled it to stand at the forefront of brewing technology. Today, we can proudly look back at this decision as a positive development in the history of the company and simultaneously see a bright future ahead for the Unertl Brewery.
Our philosophy towards the brewing of our beer is quite simple yet has proven to be remarkably successful; Quality and ultimate freshness is achieved through the utilisation of short delivery routes. The ever increasing demand of our company is to grow in a positive direction, and given that fact we are currently operating at full production-capacity, we feel we are indeed growing in a positive manner!
Expansion, mergers and licensing are of course the normal economic strategies used by the large breweries to grow. However, we at Unertl Brewery, have chosen none of the above-mentioned strategies. Instead we have chosen to operate in a completely contrasting fashion, focusing instead on producing a premium niche-market based product.
This decision however, was not an easy one, as through endeavouring to service a niche-market, we were also forgoing the benefits associated with a mainstream market, nevertheless we would like to maintain our goal of individuality and therefore be perceived as a unique brewery by our customers whom we seek to maintain exceptional contact with and of course provide them with the best quality product available.
Our goals can only be achieved when the whole family continues their "Labour of love", this labour means of course, seeking to continually produce a product that is the of the highest quality and freshness. So too, do our employees work, continually striving for perfection and always maintaining in their work ethic the pillars on which our company is based: commitment and loyalty.
Our pure spring water, which runs directly beneath the ground of our brewery, provides us with the ultimate ingredient to create products of a unique quality. The size of our brewery also allows us to be flexible, quick-responding and above all, individual. We are therefore of the belief that the satisfaction of our customers is truly dependant on us maintaining our philosophy and working into the future with honesty and determination thereby brewing a beer that is essential for our nourishment.
