Two Gold Medals for the Unertl Brewery at the European Beer Star Awards 2004 International expert-jury recognise special beer varieties and their tastes.

At the 2004 EUROPEAN BEER STAR awards, the Unertl brewery took out two of the most coveted awards, winning the gold medal for both the best light wheat-beer and the best German style dark-wheat ale. The brewery's beers impressed the judges so greatly with their unique characters and tastes, that they had no choice but to award gold!
The EUROPEAN BEER STAR is presented from the association of mid-sized private breweries in association with the Independent Breweries in Europe. The aim of the awards is to publicise the diversity of tastes provided by European beer.
The EUROPEAN BEER STAR has world-wide participation. This year for example over 120 breweries from 16 different countries presented more than 270 beers. The beers are tasted and assessed by an expert-jury in 18 different categories. The prize allocation process entails a series of blind-tastings whereby the jury is in fact authorised to not present an award at all if they believe that no beer is exceptional is enough! So for this reason the prize is even more valuable.
